The state border commissions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro agreed on and initialed the text of the Agreement on State Border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro on 26 – 27 May in Sarajevo.
Textual Description of the State Board Stretch and Topographic Maps at the Scale of 1:25000 (19 sheets), with charted borderline, were also agreed on and initialed, constituting annexes to the Agreement on State Border.
The border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro is 268 km long and it was initially discussed in the framework of the discussions on the border issue between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) and Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, and then, since the independence of Montenegro, discussions began between the border commissions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. There were no major contested issues throughout the discussions between the commissions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
The only disagreement had arisen on a section of the border between the municipalities of Foča (CM Slatina) and Pljevlja, but the commissions reached an agreement, which was confirmed by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of Montenegro.
With the initialing of these documents, the technical and the most demanding part of the identification of the borderline of the two countries was completed, meeting the most important requirement for signature of the Agreement on State Border between the two countries. Once the consents by the relevant state authorities are granted, the Agreement will be signed and then ratified in the parliaments of the two countries.
