Google Street View Officially Available in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Cooperation between FGA and Google in the Field of sharing Spatial Data and Services

Starting today, Bosnia and Herzegovina has become part of the global Google Street View community, as confirmed by the official announcement on the Google Blog. The launch of this service enables citizens, institutions, and businesses to virtually explore cities, settlements, and cultural-historical sites, while also improving on-the-ground navigation and simplifying travel planning.

For the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs, this moment has special significance, because it builds on cooperation with Google that began a year ago through the integration of official spatial data, such as administrative units and the Address Register of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, into the Google Maps platform.
The goal of this collaboration is to provide citizens, institutions, and both the business and tourism sectors with access to accurate, official, and up-to-date address and spatial data.

A pilot project was successfully implemented in cooperation with the City of Tuzla. As a result, the official addresses of this city have become searchable via Google Maps and are now further enhanced by the Street View service.

At the Google Street View presentation, on behalf of the FGA attended Ms. Jelena Zelić, expert advisor for SDI and International Cooperation, and Mr. Jasmin Ćatić, expert advisor for the Geoportal, who spoke on behalf of the Administration. In his address, he emphasized that Street View and official address data complement each other - while Street View provides users with a visual experience of the area, orientation, and recognition of locations on the ground, official addresses provide reliable and precise information on street names, house numbers, and territorial units.

The integration of these services creates the foundation for numerous practical applications, including more accurate navigation, faster emergency response, more efficient delivery services, easier discovery of tourist and business locations, and improved infrastructure and public service planning. In this way, the availability of Street View and official spatial data contributes to functionality and usability of digital mapping services in everyday life.

In the coming period, the FGA plans to expand the set of available address data to an additional 17 municipalities and cities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina who have given approval for data exchange. These will be gradually published on the Google Maps platform.

This cooperation confirms that connecting reliable public data with global services brings real benefits to society. It represents an important step forward toward a modern, interoperable, and transparent system of spatial data and services.

The Federal Administration will continue its activities in the field of standardization and digital transformation of spatial data and services, because accessible, accurate, and up-to-date data are the foundation of a modern society.
