DAY OF SPATIAL DATA INFRASTRUCTURE OF FEDERATION OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

First Day of Spatial Data Infrastructure in Federation of BiH was held in Mostar on 6 September 2018. Significant persons involved in the establishment and implementation of the INSPIRE Directive in the European Union, employees of the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs who are responsible for SDI Geoportal maintenance, and various SDI FBiH subjects participated.

Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs in cooperation with others geodetic agencies from Western Balkan region participates in the IMPULSE project implementation, and main goal of this project is to ensure Western Balkan countries modern and functional spatial data sharing framework in accordance with international and regional requirements.Therefore, this expert meeting is very important for future institution cooperation and data sharing.

The importance of cooperation between institutions and sharing data pointed out Director of the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs and President of the SDI FBiH Council, Mr. Željko Obradović in his opening speech.

Professor Mr. Željko Bačić Head of the BESTSDI project (Erasmus + programme) the creator of the story about the necessity of implementing the INSPIRE directive and in our premises (although we are not a full member of the EU), has presented the need to adjust the existing formal and informal education of persons who will be active SDI participants. Professor Mr. Vlado Cetl, by video link from Joint Research Center European Commision (JRC), explained active participation of JRC in the development of legal and technical specifications that are an integral part of the INSPIRE Directive. The implementation steps of the SDI in Croatia presented Mr. Tomislav Ciceli, Head of Department for SDI in State Geodetic Administration Republic of Croatia.

The great importance of this expert meeting is reflected in the need to build an efficient SDI so that all SDI entities have basic information about which sets of spatial data exist, and who is responsible for their collection and maintenance. After that, the exchange and sharing of data will be possible (with charge or free of charge - upon agreement of the subjects).

First Day of Spatial Data Infrastructure finished with this conclusions:

  • Important steps have been taken in the Federation BiH regarding the establishment and implementation of the SDI
  • SDI entities recognize the importance of establishing and implementing SDI in the Federation, with an emphasis on joint work in communication and training in this field
  • The importance of IMPULSE project to raise awareness of SDI is recognized
  • The need for formal and informal education in SDI area
  • Accept other experiences in spatial data infrastructure implementation
  • It is necessary to continue with the activities of workshops and seminars, as well as the maintenance of SDI FBiH Days in order to monitor the development of SDI
