Annual forum of Strategy of European Union for the Danube Region was held

The 5th Annual forum of Strategy of European Union (EU) for the Danube Region was held During November 3- 4, 2016, in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. Mr. Nikola Cvjetković, assistant in department of Geoinformatics was presented on respective forum on behalf of Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real-Property Affairs. EU strategies represent a form of cooperation between the EU and countries in region that are not EU members, in order to resolve problems that country or their particular region cannot solve by themselves, which consequently requires a transnational strategic approach, projects and network.

The Danube Strategy covers the 14 countries of the Danube river basin: Germany (Federal Province of Baden- Württemberg and Bavaria), Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. The total population of respective region is more than 110 million residents. During period 2009 - 2010, the European Commission with participants of the Danube Strategy have identified four main objectives:

-          Linking the Danube Region

-          Preservation of Danube Region environment

-          Building prosperity in the Danube Region

-          Strengthening of institutional capacity and security

Since 2011, the EU Strategy for the Danube region provides a framework trough which countries and regions along the Danube River cooperate in order to be better prepared for common challenges that they have. This year’s forum of the Danube Strategy in Bratislava particularly pointed out challenges and perspectives of water resources management as well as related research and innovation. How to transform political commitment into operational activities and specific measures was one of Forum key topic.
