The Department of Geoinformatics performs the following activities and tasks:

• participates in preparation of laws and regulations in the field of establishment, maintenance, issuance, and archiving of technical documentation and archive data, as well as geodetic information system data,
• drafts medium term and annual work plans,
• prepares analyses, reports, technical instructions, opinions, and explanations of the legislation that falls within the competence of the Department,
• makes proposals for undertaking appropriate measures and prepares information for the Cabinet of the Federation in the field of the Department's competence,
• performs inspection supervision of the activities that fall within the competence of the Department,
• performs activities of establishment, maintenance, and management of information and communication systems,
• performs activities of organization, keeping, and issuance of technical archive of geodetic plans and maps, core geodetic works, and other data obtained by way of performing geodetic works,
• performs activities of digitalization of archival mapping materials and technical documentation,
• performs activities of establishment, maintenance, distribution, and archiving of geodetic information system database,
• organizes and supervises system of records and charges for accessing and making available technical archive and database data, ensures security of data stored in the databases, analyses needs and works on systemic implementation of common information bases in all federal, cantonal, and municipal authorities and services competent for geodetic affairs and real estate cadastre,
• collects data, records, monitors, and analyzes status and use of IT and communications equipment in all federal, cantonal, and municipal authorities and services competent for geodetic affairs and real estate cadastre,
• participates in preparation and implementation of the projects that include an information and communications technology component, and performs other activities related to databases and information and communications technology,
• performs activities of creating and maintaining WEB and MAIL servers, receiving and editing WEB and other presentations,
• performs other activities that fall within the competence of the Federal Geodetic Administration as assigned by the Director.
