A round table on a strategy for development of official cartography of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina held in Sarajevo

A round table on a strategy for development of official cartography of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) was held on 28 April 2014 at the premises of Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs (FGA).

Željko Obradović, Director of FGA, delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of defining the strategy for the purposes of development of official cartography of FBiH and presenting the projects of Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs from its scope of competence that have been implemented so far. Prof. Slobodanka Ključanin, PhD, presented the terms of reference for the strategy and brief state of the art of official cartography in FBiH, as well as the experiences of the countries of the region and Europe. The discussion proceeded with a presentation of an analysis of the topographic and cartographic data model by Almir Karabegović, PhD. Ivan Landek, MS, from the State Geodetic Administration of the Republic of Croatia, presented a proposal of organizational and functional structure of Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs.

Vesna Poslončec-Petrić, PhD, from University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Geodesy, presented a proposal of new methodology for development of official maps in FBiH. Mirza Ponjavić, PhD, professor at University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Civil Engineering, presented an analysis of a survey that was conducted among users of the official topographic maps and producers of the thematic spatial data in FBiH, as well as the recommendations for selection of an optimal model for OTC database. The discussion was also attended by assistant directors and other staff of FGA, as well as representatives of the federal and cantonal authorities that are interested in the strategy for development of official cartography of FBiH. The round table was concluded with a discussion and comments on the proposed solutions and recommended activities that are part of the adopted strategy.
